Eyelash Curler: An Essential tool

🇬🇧 One tool that I have always seen professional makeup artists use and that’s in every model’s beauty kit that I feel a lot of women overlook is the eyelash curler. And I can understand that it can look like an intimidating device but there’s no better way to lift your short lashes, open up your eyes or add a bit of oomph before applying your lengthening or volumizing mascaras. It will also make you look more awake when you’re not wearing any makeup.

The key here is quality; only a good quality tool will allow you to feel comfortable using it. Choose a metal one instead of a plastic one; you need something that you can hold firmly. Make sure that the pad being used is made out of silicon and not rubber. The lash pad can’t be too soft, otherwise you might end up pressing into your lashes too hard.

Using the tool properly is also very important to get the results sought. Place it as close as possible to the root of the lashes, underneath the base of the upper lashes. Keep it clamped for at least 10-15 seconds depending on whether you have thin or thick eyelashes. You can hold slightly longer on thick eyelashes. (you can go up to 20 seconds). Go from the inner corner of the eyes to the outer corner making sure you also clamp in the middle of your eyelashes.

And of course, always use your eyelash curler BEFORE applying your mascara.

To maintain your eyelash curler, clean it regularly and change the lash pad every few months based on how often you use it.

Shu Uemura’s iconic Eyelash Curler

This is the Rolls Royce of eyelash curlers, its curved angles produce a very soft curve and its ergonomic shape will ensure you have stability and control. The upgraded silicon pad has a new “mushroom” shape, which provides a protective, stay-put edge for better safety and optimum curl. The patented hinge applies the perfect amount of pressure on eyelashes.

The one thing that is slightly annoying with this product is that you can’t get replacement pads for it so you have to buy a whole new curler every time your pad needs to be changed: not great for the environment. Additionally, Shu Uemura’s makeup is only available online in the U.S. and Canada and they do not ship internationally. It retails for 23 U.S. Dollars on www.shuuemura-usa.com and 27 Canadian Dollars on www.shuuemura.ca.

Surratt Beauty Relevée Lash Curler

This award-winning curler uses a similar mechanism to the Shu Uemura one (the Japanese know-how). Its matte black design is so sophisticated and it’s also one makeup artist favourite. Just one squeeze is enough with this curler which applies less pressure than other tools on the market but still provides a good grip thanks to no-slip handles. You will not experience any pinching or breakage using it. The Surratt Eyelash curler comes with one replacement pad and can be purchased on a lot of websites, on www.surrattbeauty.com for 36 U.S. Dollars and on www.libertylondon.com in the U.K. for 32 GBP. It’s available in France at Look Fantastic
