Rhode’s Pineapple Refresh Cleanser

Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser | Balkis Beauty

🇬🇧 Having grown up in Guinea, I’ve always known the richness of truly exceptional pineapples, especially those from Maférinyah, where the fruit is at its sweetest, most fragrant, and full of vitality. So when I discovered Rhode’s Pineapple Refresh Cleanser, I was immediately intrigued. Not only does it harness the gentle exfoliating power of pineapple enzymes (bromelain), nature’s more refined answer to harsh scrubs—but it also features polyglutamic acid, a powerhouse hydrator even more effective than hyaluronic acid. The result? A sensorial, skin-renewing cleanse that feels as indulgent as it is intelligent.

I’ll admit, when Rhode first entered the skincare space, I was sceptical. The flood of celebrity-founded brands and the rise of so-called “clean beauty” often feel more like savvy marketing plays than authentic, ingredient-driven innovation. I’ve seen too many launches built on hype rather than formulation integrity, and I wasn’t convinced this would be any different.

But the Pineapple Refresh Cleanser surprised me. Thoughtfully formulated, sensorially elegant, and genuinely effective, it challenged my assumptions in the best way.

Rhode Pineapple Refresh Cleanser Formula

What Is the Pineapple Refresh Cleanser?

Part of Rhode’s curated line of skin-enhancing essentials, the Pineapple Refresh Cleanser is a balm-to-lather facial cleanser designed to gently exfoliate, brighten, and especially hydrate, all in one step. It aims to reset the skin without stripping it, making it an ideal cleanse in a thoughtful skincare ritual.

With its sleek, minimalist packaging and focus on performance-led botanicals, this cleanser fits beautifully into any luxury routine.

Key Ingredients: A Breakdown

I was pleasantly surprised to see Pineapple extract quite high in the ingredient list and mild surfactants like potassium cocoyl glycinate and lauramidopropyl betaine.

  • Pineapple Enzymes (Bromelain): Naturally exfoliate by breaking down dead skin cells—offering a more gentle, enzymatic alternative to physical or acid exfoliants.
  • Polyglutamic Acid: A deeply hydrating molecule that holds 4x more moisture than hyaluronic acid, helping to plump and smooth the skin barrier.
  • Glycerin: A humectant that draws moisture into the skin, reinforcing the cleanser’s hydrating benefits.
  • Green tea extract: an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties

Who Is It For?

I don’t recommend this if you have dry, sensitive skin. The formulation is very gentle, but, although enzymes are gentler, there’s still a bit of a daily exfoliation here. Everybody else can use it.

How to Use It

Daily, AM or PM:

  1. Apply 1–2 pumps to damp skin.
  2. Massage in gentle circular motions, allowing the enzymes to activate for about 30–60 seconds.
  3. Rinse thoroughly and follow with booster, toner, essences….
  4. For sensitive skin, start with 3x/week and build up as needed.
  5. This is a second-step cleanser in a double cleanse routine. I wouldn’t use this to remove makeup or SPF at night

What Results Can You Expect?

With regular use, you can expect:

  • A brighter, smoother complexion without redness or over-drying.
  • Improved texture—especially around areas prone to flakiness or congestion.
  • Enhanced hydration and skin suppleness, thanks to polyglutamic acid.
  • A more refined glow, achieved through consistent but gentle exfoliation.

It’s not a dramatic, overnight transformation, but rather, a quiet luxury: skin that looks healthy, luminous, and calm. The formula is fragrance-free, vegan, cruelty-free and tested for sensitive skin. The brand’s packaging is made of upcycled PCR (post-consumer recycled) materials, and they also offer an empties-recycling program, packaging can be returned and reused.

Rhode has been really good at hearing feedback about inclusivity, which also changed my mind about the brand. They reformulated their blush after there was criticism of how they appeared on darker complexions.

Ready to Try It?

If you’ve been looking for a cleanser that elevates your daily ritual, one that respects your skin while delivering results, Rhode’s Pineapple Refresh Cleanser is absolutely worth experiencing. It’s skincare that feels like self-care, rooted in performance and inspired by nature.
